Our Terms of Business With You

Who regulates us?

Express Insurance Services Limited is authorised and regulated by the Financial Services Authority (FSA), the independent watchdog that regulates Financial Services. Our FSA Registration number is 311354.
Our permitted business is advising, arranging, dealing as agent and assisting in the administration and performance of general insurance contracts. You may check this on the FSA's register by visiting the FSA website
www.fsa.gov.uk/register or by contacting the FSA on 0845 606 1234.

Our Service

Our role is to assess your insurance needs and offer a suitable policy which satisfies these needs. In situations where we are able to arrange insurance for you and either make recommendations or offer advice, we shall confirm the position to you in writing. We will not in any circumstances act as an insurer nor guarantee or warrant the solvency of any insurer. You understand that these Terms and Conditions, together with your proposal form, establish the basis of your contract with Express Insurance, whom you have appointed as your independent intermediary.

We select insurance products from a limited range of insurers. For Add-On policies, a single provider is used.

Handling Client Money and/or Insurer Money

We collect and hold money as agent of the insurer/policy provider.

Provision of Cover

You should be aware that cover cannot be granted in the absence of premium payment, or part thereof. In the event of an initial payment not being authorised, cover may not be deemed to have been afforded in any way. It remains your responsibility therefore to ensure that sufficient funds are available so that cover may commence.

Your Responsibilities

You are responsible for providing the complete and accurate information, which insurers require in connection with any proposal for insurance cover. This is particularly important before taking out a policy and at renewal, but it also applies throughout the life of a policy. When obtaining quotations through this website, if you fail to disclose any material fact or other information material to the insurance this could invalidate the policy and mean that claims may not be paid. You should check all details on any proposal form or Statement of Facts and pay particular attention to any declaration you may be asked to sign.
You should read all insurance documents issued to you and ensure that you are aware of the cover, limits and other terms that apply. Particular attention should be paid to any warranties and conditions as failure to comply with them could invalidate your policy. Any points which you do not understand should be communicated to us within seven days. Should your premium not be correct or should you have not made us aware of all particulars relevant to this risk, where applicable you will have the option to cancel your cover and receive a refund of all monies paid less any time on risk charge made by the Underwriters. Alternatively you may have the option of paying the additional premium required to continue the policy cover. You understand that, should you have left off your proposal form details of any person who will drive, accidents, claims, convictions, or modifications to your vehicle, then in the event of a claim your Policy will be made void from inception and the claim refused.
Upon receipt of your policy documentation a fourteen day cooling-off period becomes effective. Should you find that the policy is unsuitable for your needs, you may cancel at any time within this period by informing us in writing and returning your documents. In addition to any charge made by your insurer for time on risk, a charge of £40.00 may be made by Express Insurance for the administration of your policy at that point.
You should be aware that no guarantee of the Driving Other Cars extension can be given until the Certificate of Insurance is issued and the extension is granted.
You must understand that, where you inform us that your vehicle is fitted with an engine immobiliser, this becomes a condition of your policy and, as such, unless there is an immobiliser fitted and/or it is in good working order, no indemnity against theft of the vehicle will apply. Proof must be supplied in the form of a certificate from an Approved person/organisation and must be supplied at inception of the policy.
You should inform us immediately of any changes in circumstances that may affect the services provided by us or the cover provided by your policy. If you are unsure about any matter, please contact us for guidance.
I understand that this contract unless otherwise stated will be subject to English Law.

Agreed Procedure

  • You should co-operate fully with our procedures - particularly in supplying all information and documentation that we require promptly and within a maximum of three weeks from receipt of these documents where appropriate. Failure to do so may lead to the commencement of cancellation procedures.
  • You accept that it is your responsibility to ensure that you hold a current cover note/Certificate of Insurance.
  • You agree that any refund of premium following a mid term adjustment will only be credited upon receipt of same from your Insurance Company.
  • In administering your policy you accept that we may record or monitor telephone conversations between us to assist in improving customer service.

Instalment Terms

You understand and agree that, where you have selected to pay via a payment plan, the deposit paid represents cover that has been afforded to you and that the whole of the annual premium has been paid to the agreed insurance company by Express Insurance and is funded by Kaupthing Singer & Friedlander Premium Finance. You further understand that failure to make instalment payments may ultimately lead to the cancellation of your policy.

Complaints and Compensation

We aim to provide you with a high level of customer service at all times, but if you are not satisfied, please contact our Sales Support department on 0845 330 3351 who will advise you how to proceed.
Having followed our Customer Complaints Procedure (full details available on request), if you are still not satisfied, you may refer your query to the Financial Ombudsman Service. We are covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS). You may be entitled to compensation from the scheme if we cannot meet our obligations. This depends on the type of insurance, size of the business (if a commercial customer) and the circumstances of the claim. Further information about compensation scheme arrangements is available from the FSCS.
Read further information about the Express Insurance complaints procedure.

Cancellation of Insurance

You should make any request for the cancellation of a policy in writing and any relevant certificate of insurance should be returned to us or to the insurer concerned. In the event of cancellation, charges for our services will apply in accordance with our schedule of charges. The terms of your policy may allow insurers to retain the premium in full or to charge short-period premiums in the event of cancellation.
I understand and agree that any shortfall in premium following cancellation will be my responsibility and I irrevocably authorise Express Insurance to deduct any such shortfall from any refund generated under any policy held by me in my name where appropriate.

Termination of Authority

You may terminate our authority to act on your behalf with 14 days notice or as otherwise agreed without penalty. Notice of this termination must be given in writing and will take effect from the date of receipt. Termination is without prejudice to any transactions already initiated which will be completed according to these terms of business unless otherwise agreed in writing. You will be liable to pay for any transactions or adjustments effective prior to termination and we will be entitled to retain any and all fees or brokerage payable in relation to policies placed by us prior to the date of termination.

In such instances personal information held by us may be disclosed on a confidential basis, and in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998, to such third parties.

Claims Handling Arrangements

Express Insurance Services LTD, or our partners will employ due care and skill if we act on your behalf in respect of a claim.

You further understand that Express Insurance LTD or our partners will, where appropriate, authorise solicitors to act on your behalf in connection with your claim, and will conduct the claim in a manner we see fit. You authorise appointed solicitors to receive compensation monies, endorse cheques made payable to you.
